Types of Writing Jobs You Can Take Up

Are you after a writing job? Perhaps you are a new grad and are searching for some type of work, or maybe you are an aspiring freelance writer? Whichever your situation, there is vast array of writing jobs out there. We will cover a few here to give you some ideas and to help you with your search.

 

Author: this is usually the typical type of writing job most people think of when you say the word writer. An author writes books, usually non-fiction and fiction. That’s it. Of course each author has his or her own niches and specializations. This type of writing job use to be more difficult, with regard to getting published, but with the advent of the Internet, it is very easy to get yourself published by creating an e-book. E-books can be a lot shorter to write and more lucrative as there is very little overhead when creating one, and almost all of the profit from the sales of the book belong to the author.

 

Editor: this is another job that is very well known, both among writers and non-writers. An editor is usually the person that prepares text for publication as well as proofreading and fact checking. This is usually the person who is going to review anything you submit, they serve a good purpose as many of us have seen the e-book published that was not edited.

 

Copywriter: A copywriter writes advertising and product descriptions (known collectively as copy) for print and online catalogs, commercial scripts, brochures, direct mail and so forth. This one is self explanatory, but it is an ever growing, and very lucrative career.
