How to Increase Typing Speed

As a freelance writer you might find it will become necessary to learn to increase your typing speed. As you business grows or you have deadlines, the need for speed will increase. There are a number of methods out there to help you do so.

Time

Simply, over time as you type more and more your typing speed will naturally increase as you get better and as you simply do more, but if you aren’t a very accurate typist this will only work for so long.

Practice

This is the single most important thing you to do. There are several free resources online, such as learntyping.org, typing.com, and many others, as well as free resources on sites like Coursera, or the open source courses on university pages. You can also take typing tests to see what your current speed is, as well as your error rate.

Take a course

If you decide to take a course, you will definitely find you are much better for it as it is structured, and you often have access to an instructor who can offer feedback as well as other students who can provide helpful tips and motivation. If taking a course is not your thing, you can simply find some sort of text and set yourself up to practice typing it. It is important you make sure you know what is the correct finger placement and take it from there.

These are very simple tips to help you with your typing speed, but as you implement them, and continue to practice daily for at least 30 minutes, you will find your speed and accuracy will improve very quickly.  You will then find it easier to get through your work much faster with fewer errors, making you more productive!
