Freelance Writing Advice: 7 Tips for Freelance Writers

It takes time for a freelance writer to succeed in freelance writing but the results are worth the struggle. For one to remain at a competitive advantage , they need to know the basics. These are the simple things some freelance writers  take for granted and end up frustrated with their writing careers.

1. Find a Serious Work Environment

If you are to make any good out of this art, you must treat it with the seriousness it deserves. Start by getting yourself  a place of work, could be a room in  your house dedicated for your job only or a place away from home.

You will be less distracted this way and other people will also learn to respect your space.

2. Write Flawlessly

A freelance writer who is chasing success leaves no room for mistakes that make them look silly. Make it a habit to proofread your work and check against the instructions provided by the client. Making your clients happy goes a long way in connecting you to your success in freelance writing.

3.All Clients are Equally Important. Let Them Know So.

Every client, no matter the complexity of their order must be treated as any other; with uttermost respect. Prioritize on orders so every client is catered for.

Remember your clients are your best form of advertisement. When you treat them well, they will not hesitate to recommend you to their friends or colleagues who might need writing services in the future.

4. Accept Revisions

Sometimes you will fall short of a client’s expectations and when they give you a second chance, do not waste it. Such opportunities rarely come by  in freelance writing.

You should count yourself lucky that your client is considerate enough to let you make those alterations while they are at liberty to engage another freelance writer.

5.Meet Deadlines on Time and When You Cannot, Communicate Early Enough

Even with a late submission, most clients always appreciate prior notification. They feel that you have put their feelings into consideration and that you really care for them.

This also paints you as an honest person, a rare  virtue under the sun.

6.Be Honest

When you are honest with your clients, you will never accept a project which you have no capacity  to handle. You will always give them useful advice when they ask for it.

As stated earlier, an honest writer will always inform their clients  when they cannot meet a deadline. Freelance writing clients are always craving for loyalty and this, only an honest writer can provide.

7. Connect With Other Freelance Writers

In this art, you can hardly make it on your own. You need the warmth of a crowd and this is what writer-writer relationships provide. You need someone to consult when you are faced with a dilemma, someone to help you out when you don’t know how best to deal with a difficult clients.
