Need more money?
How to Ask for Increased Pay Rates. Do You Deserve it?

We will always need more money  but how to ask for more becomes the elephant issue. You do not want to come out as a nagging, insatiable  person and so you will want to ask right. Just how do you say “I want more money” in freelance writing without risking losing your source of income?

The problem is not in how to say it, but rather why you need to say it. Do you deserve a raise? You must first evaluate yourself and find out if you are in the right position to ask for extra cash from your editor.  Consider the following:

What is the Quality of Your Work?

Did you know that what you earn is sometimes determined by the quality of work you produce? Your editor will sometimes pay more money to another writer for the same job that you did for a less amount. That’s how it works!

Why will an editor pay you more when they are sure you will have to do a few revisions before the job is finally approved? Look at the quality of your work before you draft that email demanding for a raise. Does your work warrant a raise?

How Well Do You Maintain Discipline?

Are you the kind of writer who is hell bent on breaking every rule that your agency has set for writers? If you are always in the list of  trouble makers, you might want to think twice before asking for a raise.

Every freelance writing agency wants to work with disciplined writers, those that know their place and play their role excellently. Your ability to follow simple rules qualifies you for a raise, even without you having to demand for it.

Is a Raise Reasonable at the Moment?

If you do not have a definite answer, then you do not even know what you need right now. Study the times and the freelancing ‘atmosphere , then you will  find out if asking for a raise is warranted.  You will always feel it when it is right to raise your voice.

When you feel the conviction, go ahead and demand for an increased pay rate. Until then, collect a few more justifications.
